16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with 45% of its storage used

When a product’s packaging tells you that you’re going to get a certain amount of storage there’s an expectation that it will deliver something close to that amount for you to use. With Android phones, it’s common to simply not warn buyers that the available storage is partially used by the system and pre-loaded apps. If built-in storage is a big deal to you, the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 may not be your best choice.

If you head to the Storage section of the Settings on a new Galaxy S4, you’ll find that only 8.82GB is available to the user. That’s the total space available to you, so applications that were pre-loaded by your carrier and anything you sync over during account creation will pull from that amount. The rest of that 16GB you can’t even see as the user — Android tells you that the phone only has 8.82GB total, entirely cutting out the space used by the system itself.

The Galaxy S4 is far from alone in this. The HTC One lists 7.14GB consumed in an ambiguously labeled “Other” category on the phone, but the phone at least confirms that it does in fact have 32GB of onboard storage. Because there’s no 16GB version of the HTC One, it’s not nearly as noticeable, and, of course, there are plenty of ways around this for Samsung hopefuls. The phone offers a micro SD card slot that can expand storage by up to 64GB, and the phone itself comes in high capacity models if you are willing to spend the extra money. Just don’t expect to get anything close to 16GB from the entry-level S4.

The much awaited next Samsung flagship device the Samsung Galaxy S4 is finally here! The phone, true to rumours, promises most of the expected features and then some more... Take a look at some of the coolest features and specifications below!

The Samsung Galaxy SIV comes with the much talked about 'Smart Scroll'. The art of scrolling through your phone using your eyes or retina scrolling has been mastered by the new flagship device. However, the functionality is restricted to the video feature. Samsung Galaxy SIV can sense when you are watching your video and when your eyes are away from the screen. The minute you look away from the screen, the video pauses and resumes as soon as you look back. The smart scroll feature is also extended to the screen. While earlier Samsung phones came with the tilt to zoom feature, Samsung has taken the feature to a complete new level. Using the Samsung Galaxy SIV, you can tilt your phone screen to scroll up or down. However, that is not where it ends. To prevent scrolling accidentally, the feature works only when your eyes are on the screen. While Samsung has not incorporated the complete retina scrolling or smart scroll, most of the functions incorporate it.

Another unique feature Samsung has incorporated in the phone is the wave software. While the Google Play store does have apps like Wave Control for hover touch technology, Samsung has gone a step ahead and incorporated it in the new device. The new Samsung Galaxy SIV provides you the option to start/stop a song or change tracks just by waving your hand over the phone. There is no need to touch the phone. The feature works for even web pages. Whether Samsung has just added an extended version of the app or created a whole new software is yet to be seen. This new gesture is aptly called the “Air Gesture”.

The Air Gesture feature also lets you hover over mails or messages min your phone. The finger hover options gives you an expand view of the mail/msg. You can now check some contents without actually opening the mail. The feature also works for galleries and photo albums.

Apart from these two features, there are other software additions to the phone too. The Samsung Galaxy SIV has the capability to read your business cards or contacts directly from the pictures and save them to contacts automatically. Although we still do not have the complete clarity on this function, we have doubts as to will Samsung provide selective saving? What if I do not want to save a particular number to the contact list? Imagine having a contact list filled with numbers you do not want and people you contacted just once in your life! We do hope Samsung has provided the options for selective automatic saving.

So much for unique software. Let’s now take a look at some boring old specs. However, Samsung has ensured that nothing about any of the specs remains boring in the Samsung Galaxy SIV!
